HIST 1302, 11008 and 11009

Your online sections are now active. I'm setting the quiz dates now. Remember, you get two chances at each quiz, and the average will be recorded. You can, of course, just take the quiz once if you prefer.

Dr. Davis,
Just a quick question for you. Of the two supplemental books, which will be the first one to read. The book listed under assessments is not one of the books listed on our syllabus. I would just like to clarify please and thank you!

erin, i do remember you (but i'm thinking you're in my 9:00 class, which is 1301; maybe i'm mistaken). anyway, just read the first chapter of your textbook (ch. 1 for 1301; ch. 19 for 1302). when you come to class you will get help with the syllabus. if you have a laptop, please bring it with you if it's not too much trouble. till then, just relax, ok? :)

Lauren, those are lecture notes, and yes I used to post them to help students follow the lectures and prepare for the exam. I haven't lectured much lately, and I doubt that I will lecture must this semester, and I haven't posted my notes for that reason. I am trying a different approach, and let's see how it works out for this first unit. If I decide to go back to the lecture format, I will certainly post those notes for you. Jeevan and I go way back, and he remembers when I used lecture a lot. We have since discussed this new approach, and we are both excited about it. I hope it works out better than the lecture, and I think it will be more fun. See you in class, Tuesday!

Dr. Davis,
I have been reading Chaper 19, but I was actually wondering if we are going to actually be discussing any of it in class. I was also wondering that for our supplemental books since it isnt in our syllabus do we just replace them in the dates that the other books are in?

David L. Davis said...

Yeah, just read "Amusing the Millions," and thanks for reminding me about that error on the syllabus. Regarding the chapter material, it is my intention that our discussions and class projects will be influenced by the reading and the quiz. In any case, doing your reading and taking the quizzes helps to fulfill the course learning objectives, while leaving us free to pursue "the long conversation" in class. It will all come together. It always does :)

Hi professor Davis
I am Jacklyn and I am in your 1302 class on tue. and thursday and I was confused on exactly when the Unit 1 quizzes are due. On the syllabus it says ch. 19-22 is due sep. 14. But on the "Assessment" tab it says the quizzes are due on different dates. I was wondering which dates should I follow.

Thank you

Hello, I am Cherylann,
From what I understand about the due date for our first quizzes, we need to take unit#1 quizzes by next Thursday August 17th.

Cherlyann and anonymous, yes, we decided the Unit 1 quizzes would be due by the 17th.
